Starting an E-Commerce Business with My Husband After 25 Years of Marriage

A New Chapter Begins

After 25 years of marriage and raising our three children, my husband and I are embarking on an exciting new journey together: running an e-commerce business.

As our children grow up and as our family dynamic changes, I find myself with a renewed sense of purpose. I still have a lot that I want to achieve. And in December of this year, my husband will be leaving his current profession.

I think my husband was contemplating many hours of lying in his hammock and riding his motorbike. Oh dear!

This new venture feels like coming full circle, taking us back to the days when we first started working together as lawyers nearly 27 years ago.

Our Journey from Law to E-Commerce

From Courtrooms to Computer Screens

I really enjoyed it when my husband and I worked together as lawyers. He was more senior than me and he was my “go-to” for advice when I was stuck. He explained things in a super simple and accessible way, for which I was always grateful!

As life progressed, I shifted my focus to raising our children. I remained in the law and spent 9 years reviewing miscarriages of justice, before setting up my business as a stylist, blogger, and influencer.

Entering the E-Commerce World

Five years ago, I ventured into the world of e-commerce and created online style programs and a monthly style membership.

Despite the long hours and the challenging situations I found myself in, the flexibility and creative freedom really appealed to me (I’m not sure I could ever work for anyone else again!)

I found immense satisfaction in building something from the ground up and online businesses appeals to my “manifesting generator” personality as there is always something to keep me interested. (There is a podcast episode on human design coming soon!)

Over the years, I honed my skills in tech platforms, digital marketing, building funnels, creating sales pages and podcasting.

A Tech-Savvy Wife and a Tech-Challenged Husband

Bridging the Knowledge Gap

While I am pretty savvy in the intricacies of the online business world, my husband is not exactly tech-savvy. His expertise lies in the legal field, and the digital world of online business is foreign to him. This disparity in our skill sets has left him wondering how best he can contribute to our new business venture. But he has so many skills and just having him by my side each day to bounce ideas off will be lovely.

The Dynamics of Working Together Again

What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

Starting a new business venture is always a leap of faith and this is exciting!

Some might say that starting a business together after 25 years of marriage is a questionable decision!

However, from our early days as legal partners to stepping into our new roles, we have always worked with a team. True, sometimes it has been more like the England team rather than World Cup Winners but that’s the nature of marriage - teamwork!

Despite the challenges and uncertainties, we are excited to embark on this new adventure. The combination of my “expertise” and his strategic acumen, coupled with his calm demeanour when faced with a crisis, makes us confident that we will navigate this new chapter successfully. Watch this space!
